These recalls involve certain 1999 to 2003 Yamaha XV 1600cc and 1700cc motorcycles; the transmission can 10 k up due to a broken retaining circlip. Owner notification began on September 2,2003 for re all 03V-309 and on October 10, 2006 for recall 06V-397. Through the second Quarter of 2008, Yamaha reports that of the 26,829 vehicles involved in the mv-309 campaign, 4,063 have not been remedied, and that of the 19,797 vehicles involved in the 06V-397 campaign, 11,203 have not been remedied. Yamaha, bould conduct the owner renotification in accordance with the guidelines listed below. • Before conducting the owner renotification, Yamaha should obtain an updated own r Ii t, for this recall campaign, based on current state motor vehicle registration rec rds. • Yamaha's proposed owner renotification letter for this recall must meet the requirements of 49 CFR Part 577.10, "FOllOW-Up Notification," and must be submitted to NHTSA for review before owner renotification begins. Part 577.10(e)(1) specifically requires that the renotification letter be identified as a \\ ... follow-up to an earlier communication," and that it urge owners to present their vehicle for remedy • In addition to the six quarterly status reports required under 49 CFR Part 573.6, "Quarterly Reports," Yamaha is requested to file three additional quarterly status reports. • Furnish a proposed schedule for conducting the owner renotification that includes the following information: a. the date on which the search of current state motor vehicle registration records will be initiated in order to update the original owner list; b. the approximate date on which the revised owner list will be available to initiate owner renotification; c. the approximate dale on which the owner renotification will begin; and d. the approximate date on which the owner renotification will be completed (if the owner renotification is to be staggered, give the beginning and ending owner renotification date for each segment).
